Therefore when my friend told me we are going to a restaurant for Japanese curry, I was to be honest not very keen. Anyway just to give it a try we went to the place that he recommended. The place is located near the City Hall MRT. The name of the place if I recalled correctly was "Curry flavour"
Since this place's speciality is supposed to be the curry, we decided to have their pork curry rice. All their curry rice comes included with a complementary miso soup or a vegetable salad. As I am not a soup person, I decided to have the vegetable salad shown below.
With regard to taste, (ehh.... ) it is just vegetable that has been placed together and tossed with a soy sauce type of dressing. As I am also not keen on vegetable, this salad was not really to my liking.
My frens and I decided to order two side dishes to try out. We ordered the fried mushroom and the soft shell crab which are shown in the following two pictures.
Both dishes were very good in terms of the taste. The fried mushroom was very crispy on the exterior but it was still able to maintain the mushroom flavour and moisture. For the crab, it was one of the best soft shell crab that I had in a while. The only downside is not the taste or quality but in terms of the price. It is a bit expensive.
The following two pictures are showing the main course which is the pork curry rice. The first picture shows how the dish was presented to the guest.
With regard to the taste test for the curry rice:
Firstly, the most important which was the fried pork and the curry. The fried pork was really excellent. For the curry, as it is the first time i am having the Japanese version of curry, I am not able to do a comparison. What I could say is that the curry had a strong and pleasant aroma and it is not really spicy which is unlike the curry you usually can find easily in Southeast Asia.
For the rice that came together, it was not the local version of rice. The rice was rather sticky which reminds me more of the rice used to make Sushi. To me I would have preferred normal rice but this is a matter of preference so actually the rice was quite ok.
Overall it was quite a good experience to sample another way of preparation of curry from another culture.

Seriously speaking, the price at Curry Favor is over-rated. The food is okay but definitely not worthed 30 plus dollars per head. I'd prefer to spend that amount on a great sashimi and tempura bento at Kuriya. Plus you do get free deserts if you are lucky to know the manager there. ;)
